The surroundings of Ganja are as famous for their nature as the city is for its history. The chief treasure here is Lake Goygol.
Nature
Goygol — the "blue lake" — lies in the mountains at the foot of Kapaz. By legend it formed in the earthquake of 1139, when a landslide dammed a river and several lakes appeared in the mountains.
Today Goygol and the neighbouring Lake Maralgol are part of a national park. The clear water reflecting the mountains and pine forests makes this one of the symbols of the country's nature.
Nature
Ganja itself is a green city with shady streets. Its special pride is an ancient oriental plane tree (chinar) about five hundred years old, a living witness to centuries of the city's history.
